Carrollton Depot Rehabilitation

In 2006, the City of Carrollton purchased the old freight and passenger depot from Norfolk Southern Corporation after 20 plus years of unsuccessful negotiations. The City and Norfolk Southern reached a deal and construction began soon after. The rehabilitation was conducted in phases and is now complete. The project utilized local SPLOST allocations and cost savings were attained by using skilled inmate labor for most of the required construction work. Currently managed under the Carrollton Main Street program, the old depot is now used as an event rental facility which has been greatly successful. The depot renovation illustrates the successful completion of a local comprehensive plan short term work program item which preserves a unique and important local historic landmark. www.carrollton-ga.gov/city-departments/mainstreet/
