Rockmart - Silver Comet Trail Trailhead

The Silver Comet Trail runs from Smyrna to the Alabama state line, through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties in northwest Georgia. Because of its location, the Rockmart Trailhead provides access to downtown Rockmart for Trail users, and this means more activity for downtown businesses. The City, and the facility staff have noticed a significant uptick in the numbers of Trail users coming into town. In the comprehensive plan for Polk County and the cities of Aragon, Braswell, Cedartown and Rockmart (2007-2027) are numerous references to the Trail and the opportunities for recreation and economic development that it generates. Of particular interest is the item in the 2012-2016 Short Term Update for Rockmart, calling for the City to “Renovate existing Senior Center to become Rockmart’s Silver Comet Trailhead." After several years of discussion and planning, this proposed activity became a reality when it opened to the public in August of 2013. This facility offers a welcome stop for travelers on the Trail, providing a place to stop to access snacks and restroom facilities, or just looking for conversation. 770-684-5454
