• The region borders Florida in the southeastern corner of the State.

• The major cities in the region include Valdosta (Lowndes County) in the southwest, Douglas (Coffee County) in the north, Waycross (Ware County) in the east, and Tifton (Tift County) in the northwest.

• Interstate 75 passes through the length of the region running north south through Tifton and Valdosta on the way into Florida.

• US Highway 84 runs east-west through the region, connecting Valdosta and Waycross through the middle of the region. US Highway 82 links Tifton with Waycross as it travels east west through the region. US Highway 441 bisects the region running north south, passing through Douglas, and US Highway 23 (also called US Highway 1) radiates north and south from Waycross.

• The Satilla River meanders through the region from the northwest to the southeast. Other rivers include the Alapaha and Withlacoochee Rivers, flowing from the north to the south. The Suwannee River drains the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Wilderness Area into Florida to the South. The Little River is to the west of Adel and joins with the Withlacoochee River just below Valdosta.

• Some of the State Parks in the region include the Stephen C. Foster State Park in the southeast, the Laura S. Walker State Park in the east, and the General Coffee State Park in the north central part of the region. The Georgia Agrirama, located near Tifton, the Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located near Lakeland and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Charlton, Clinch and Ware counties are also located in the region. Reed Bingham State Park is located on the border between Cook and Colquitt Counties
