Salary Range:$2,701.53 - $3,714.28 (Salary is commensurate with experience)
General Description:The Family Housing Counselor performs responsible administrative field work associated with the operation of the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program within an assigned geographic area. Responsibilities include determining tenant eligibility, issuing vouchers, performing tenant family casework, inspecting housing units for compliance, conducting briefing/training sessions for participants and landlords, and completing documentation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:This position requires the following:
• Knowledge of housing inspection methods, procedures, Section 8 program rules and regulations and federal and state laws pertaining to the management of rental housing
• Skill in operating a personal computer
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Skill in applying program rules, regulations, and standards appropriately
• Ability to obtain comprehensive knowledge of relevant program rules/regulations, and standards
• Ability to read, interpret and explain program rules, regulations/standards
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to maintain extensive records and files
• Ability to manage multiple tasks
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND One year of social services experience
OR
Associate’s degree AND Three year of social services experience
OR
Five years of social services experience
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants who in addition meeting the minimum qualifications possess one or more of the following:
• Experience working in a Section 8 Housing environment or a Low-Income Housing environment
• Social services case management experience
Position Requirement:Job candidate for this position will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, driving history investigation and an educational degree check prior to the extension of a job offer. Job candidate must travel in a multi-county area within Athens jurisdiction. Must possess a valid driver’s license to legally drive in the State of Georgia and have an acceptable driving record.
