Program Description

The Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) Program provides shelter and essential services to homeless persons throughout the state by making available State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless Commission (HTF) funds and Federal HUD ESG funds to nonprofit organizations and local government entities operating homeless housing and/or providing services to the homeless. This program is principally designed to be the first step in a continuum of assistance to enable homeless individuals and families to move toward independent living as well as to prevent homelessness. Eligible activities generally include housing operations, supportive services and facilities development.

2010 - 2011 ESG and HOPWA Awards

In response to the April 5, 2010 deadline, DCA received 183 applications requesting $10.5 million dollars. With available funds, awards were made to 150 agencies totaling $6.2 million dollars. Full details ...

HUD and DCA promote ENERGY STAR in its homeless assistance programs!

All grantees are encouraged to promote energy efficiency, and are specifically encouraged to purchase and use Energy Star labeled products. For information on the Energy Star initiative go to: http://www.energystar.gov.
