Program Description

It's not fun to think about, and it may not make a pretty Web page, but someone's got to do something with the 12.7 million tons of waste we produce annually in Georgia. The Georgia Department of CommunityAffairs (DCA) helps with Georgia's solid waste management efforts primarily in four ways:

Planning the state's solid waste management efforts and assisting local governments in planning to meet their own solid waste management needs.
Gathering, analyzing and dispersing information on the state's solid waste management and waste reduction efforts.
Offering technical assistance and training in waste management issues for Georgia's local governments.
Educating Georgia citizens and businesses about waste management and waste reduction issues through training sessions, media campaigns, special events and the state's Keep America Beautiful affiliates.

Solid Waste Management Plan Due Dates

The Solid Waste Management Plan due dates, for both 10 Year Solid Waste Management Plans and the 5 Year Short Term Work Program Updates, have been posted on the "Your Local Government Status" page at: http://www.georgiaplanning.com/planners/qlgdeadlines/

Any Solid Waste Management Plans that are overdue are now reflected on the Local Compliance Status page at: http://www.georgiaplanning.com/planners/planreview/

If you find any inconsistencies between the due dates you have on file and those posted, please contact Planning and Environmental Management at (404) 679-5279, to clarify the correct Solid Waste Management Plan due dates.
