Section 8 Waiting Lists

NOTICE: The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) Wait List preliminary application period is currently closed. However, we are currently accepting preliminary applications for the Project Based Voucher Wait List.

Welcome to the Housing Choice Voucher (also known as Section 8) wait list information page. The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental subsidy to assist extremely low and low income individuals and families in renting safe, decent and affordable housing in the private rental market throughout Georgia's Department of Community Affairs (DCA)'s jurisdiction. The subsidy is given to eligible families who were selected from our wait list. Eligibility for the program is based on several factors including the family's income and eligible citizenship status.

Currently, DCA is not accepting applications to its preliminary wait list for Housing Choice Vouchers. The application process was last opened on February 1, 2016 and closed on February 7, 2016. Applications were taken for all 149 counties in Georgia that DCA has jurisdiction.

The Project Based voucher program enables DCA to provide assistance to eligible families, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, who use a voucher that is attached to an affordable safe decent rental unit. Project Based vouchers are used at selected developments where providers of supportive services focus on special needs populations. The Department of Human Resources identifies the target population and refers clients to DCA for the program. You may apply to one of the five Project Based Wait Lists by visiting the website www.applygadca.com. There you will have the option to select which of the wait lists you feel you qualify and a brief description of each is listed.

DCA does not charge application fees. Please be aware of any website or company that states that it charges fees on behalf of DCA.

DCA administers the program in 149 of Georgia's 159 counties through three regional offices located around the State. The remaining 10 counties are served by their local housing authorities. View contact information for local housing authorities (PDF).
